The girls are great performers and on their own initiative organised a talent show in the class. The acts were all amazing and it was great to see all the girls participate and be so inclusive of everyone. Well done to all!
As I'm sure you all are aware, our school has been awarded our sixth green flag for biodiversity. Third class were very active in earning this flag for the school. Well done to all and especially the student representatives on the school Green Schools Committee for all their hard work. Two representatives went to the Helix, in DCU n May 19th, where the Green Flag was formally awarded.
By now the news is out! We are taking the two third classes to the Zoo for their annual school tour on Wednesday, June 24th. Notes have been sent home with all the details. The cost is €16 to cover the cost of the bus and entrance to the Zoo. We recommend that the girls contribute towards the cost of the trip or do jobs to earn money to pay for it.
Hopefully the sun will shine for us. Either way it is sure to be a fun day out. I will post photos after the trip. On May 12th third class, Room 6, had the opportunity to attend a workshop run by Sustainable Energy Ireland in the Council offices of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown. They learned about global warming, sustainable energy and energy conservation and participated actively in the workshop. They even conducted a few experiments, including making a potato battery. The transport arrangements caused great excitement as we travelled on Dublin Bus to and from the event. Of course everyone wanted to be 'upstairs'! Friday, May 1st was 'Cookie Day' in R6. The girls practised a number of skills while enjoying a day baking cookies. They worked in groups to plan their day. They then had to pull together on the day to share ingredients and equipment and make, bake, ice and decorate their batches of cookies. (SPHE) They weighed out their ingredients (maths); they described what they were doing, followed the recipe instructions and re-told them as necessary (English and procedural writing). They made loads of cookies!! Hopefully you got to sample them at home...... The following photos will give you a flavour of the fun had on the day: And here's the finished product proudly displayed:
Our school green schools noticeboard: As you are aware we have been very active in working towards the school green flag for biodiversity. We have become 'experts' on biodiversity in Room 6 this year, through curriculum work, debates, project work, work in the school garden and of course our wormeries! These are some photos from the school Biodiversity Action Day on March 4th. Our class also completed individual projects on a native Irish tree, animal or insect. They had fun presenting and teaching each other about their chosen subject. The projects are displayed in class and at the main doorway.
On February 4th, third class had an exciting trip to the new library in Dun Laoghaire to participate in a writer's workshop. The girls were extremely well behaved and created cute books, many of which are displayed in the library. Here are some photos so you can see just how busy they were!! The beautiful view of the harbour from the library : |
